When I start Devuan from the consol, with pstree I see sinit and 6 daemons, one of which is udevd. The startx command brings up openbox, and udevd is joined by dbus-daemon [if it is installed]. These two packages, dbus and udev, are, I feel, the weak points in Devuan's armour against the borg-like assimilation by systemd of the linux userland.
udev is catered for by many alternatives, ranging from busybox's mdev to the soon to arrive vdev. dbus, on the other hand, is more sticky: whilst dbus itself can be removed, libdbus-1-3 wants to drag chromium, leafpad, lxterminal, sakura and many many more. Is dbus really used by all of these programs [terminal emulators, text editors]?
The reason I am concerned with dbus and udev is that they are openly discussed by the systemd camp as targets ripe for assimilation. The question is whether the Devuan team have a solution?
[as an aside: I asked this question on the Void Linux web site, and was angrily told it was not a problem, and should not worry].
