this is my final last ditch attempt to desperately contact people from devuan who have the answers to my severely important questions, I have tried everything for over a year to contact anyone closely related to devuan and ask them my questions that I need answered before I can switch over to devuan. I'm shocked that I can't post a thread! I couldn't believe it, but I found this place to reply!
Hello devuan.org forums! I'm new here and I'm happy that we are the front lines! we are the resistance! we are the rebellion! all the freedom freedom are belong to us! down with systemd! up with freedom! God bless you all!
I had a huge amount of trouble emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and I had huge trouble setting up a forum acccount. the first several tries I never recieved a confirmation email and
every single email I sent to every other contact of every person on devuan.org including email@example.com is rejected by any email service I use claiming "invalid email" or I get something sent back telling me the email failed to be sent or was rejected.
I was now able to create an account and I'm extremely excited to be a part of the community!
YET EVEN NOW! as I cut aside the veil of deception and venture into the eternal! my computer cries its deathcry. my computer is failing. it's life nears it's end and only dangles by a strand of pure condensed willpower. it is corrupted by a cancer of the system. it's name is systemd. THE DISEASE HAS BUT ONE CURE. Devuan.
I have extremely important questions about devuan that I have been searching for FOR OVER A YEAR, and can't get anyone to answer them for me. Please for the love of GOD answer all my questions.
I'm very confused about something that isn't clearly stated at https://devuan.org and that's "are all the same packages from debian's synaptic available on Devuan?" what I'm really worried about is that the wifi firmware packages and all the free games and desktop environments like cinnamon that are connected to gnome and system d might not be there. https://devuan.org/os/packages/list/forked-from-debian mentions which packages were forked for good reason but doesn't explicitly state if any of the rest of the packages we all know and love on debian that are NOT on the blacklist remained normal and completely available in the current repository.
I just want to know that If I use devuan that I will still be able to use cinnamon desktop environment so that I can have a comfortable GUI to experience my operating system through without systemd, "ufw and Gufw" firewalls and all the wifi and wireless firmware packages I need, or I wont be able to connect to the internet, and games like singularity, warzone2100, and freeciv.
also, from what I have seen on Ubunu, they offer the very latest stable release of freeciv-2.5.4 with the automatic mod installer, but debian offers some really outdated version. Would Devuan consider offering the latest version in the repos? Also Ubuntu has Endless Sky. that seems cool but debian doesn't have that and I would appreciate if those who have the power to do that would please do so.
The game's aren't as important of course but they make the OS feel more like home. desktop environment and wifi/internet are very important to me.
I just really need to know that I will be able to do all the same things, I really want to switch to devuan RIGHT NOW but I can't because there are no answers to this question anywhere.
please reply, and send me a message with a copy of the reply to my talk.devuan.org account, and please also send a copy to the email please! I can't miss the answers to this question and my computer is glitching out really bad.
Ifadogecouldtalk@openmailbox.org (can't remember which one was correct!!!!)
I gratiously await your responses so that I may begin my journy into a galaxy called Devuan and far far away from systemd
